I go through pretty epically proportioned bouts of self-sabotage. It starts out with something that’s showing up as difficult. Which then usually turns into a seemingly insurmountable problem. Then I turn against myself. Full-on discouraging, undermining, and diminishing myself. “How did you not see this coming? How could you be so naive to believe this person? You’ll never be able to get this right. Why did you even try when you should have known you were bound to fail? You’ve really embarrassed yourself there. You’re so weak and oh-so-boring. You have nothing to offer to the world.”
Dang, Maria. I feel you— keeping the inner world and voices encouraging is an ongoing process. And self sabotage is real. My inner cheerleader sends yours love.
Love this, and love you, my friend. I'm inspired by your bravery and commitment to evolving, innovating and living fully. Happy to be on this wild ride called life with you!
Thanks for sharing, Maria. I can relate to this. Two tactics that have helped me shorten the half-life of the narratives in my brain are reading (and revisiting) Awareness by Anthony de Mello and practicing guided mindfulness mediation through the Waking Up app.
